Dempsey Back In The Driving Seat!

Indianapolis based Younessi Racing have announced that it is expanding its presence in Firestone Indy Lights in 2012. Rodin Younessi, the lone owner/driver in the series has signed Irishman Pater Dempsey to drive for his team,  beginning with the Freedom 100.
Dempsey will drive the team’s lone entry at the race, but will be joined by Younessi in a two-car effort at Detroit’s Belle Isle event on June 2. Younessi has also hired veteran engineer Dave McMillan to re-unite with Dempsey, who made a powerful combination at O2 Racing Technology in 2011. Competing in four events together, they earned two podium finishes at St. Petersburg, led 9 laps at Long Beach and captured a top ten finish at the Freedom 100.

With eight years’ experience in Firestone Indy Lights, McMillan has scored eight poles, 25 starts in the top five, eight wins and 25 podium finishes, with Jeff Simmons, Al Unser III, Phil Giebler, Marco Andretti, Jay Howard, Jonny Reid, Charlie Kimball, and Dempsey. A star open-wheel driver in the 1970s, he is also a member of the New Zealand Motorsports Wall of Fame.

Dempsey, 26, is best known for winning the most races (9) in the history of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and for being one of only two drivers to win the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy three times. He made his Firestone Indy Lights debut in 2011 for O2 Racing Technology at four events and Andretti Autosport at five events. He earned four podium finishes with a best of second place at Toronto for Michael Andretti’s team, and finished 10th in season points despite only competing in nine events.

“I couldn’t be happier about returning for the Freedom 100 at IMS,” Dempsey said. “Having Dave McMillan back working with me is a huge advantage as we have established a great working relationship and friendship since we met last season. We have brought in top crew to work with the team and our aim is to enjoy competing for the remainder of the year and hopefully the success will follow. There is one man who has given this opportunity to all of us and that is team owner Rodin Younessi. Our aim together is to be the best we can be and I could never thank him enough for giving me this special and unique opportunity.”

Rodin Younessi, a licensed attorney, formed Younessi Racing compete in the 2012 Firestone Indy Lights season and made his series debut on the streets of St. Petersburg. He began racing motorcycles at a young age and also competed in sports car racing. In 2011, he competed in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda and the F2000 Championship Series. Younessi also owns and operates two of the highest volume Harley-Davidson dealerships in America, Seminole Harley-Davidson and Space Coast Harley-Davidson.

“I am very excited to have Peter and Dave on board as we expand our involvement in the Firestone Indy Lights series,” Younessi said. “We are committed to improving our team and we are 100% focused on winning the Freedom 100 with Peter. We are a small but unique team in this series. As an owner/driver, I race because I have a strong passion for competition. Our whole team has a love for racing and we are very excited and optimistic about our chances for success.”

Dempsey and Younessi Racing will participate in the Firestone Indy Lights Open Test on May 11 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

30 Years ago today.

People can always tell you where they were when they heard the news of a famous death. JFK, Elvis, Michael Jackson etc. For me, it has to be Gilles Villeneuve- back on this day in 1982. Dad and I were huge Villeneuve fans, having first seen him on BBC’s F1 programmes in 1979 when he had some of his best moments at the wheel of the decidedly odd looking 312 T4. I won’t go into details of his career here as far better writers than me have done so on numerous occasions so if you want details, type his name into Google- and if you want entertainment, type his name into youtube! Nigel Roebuck has sometimes been criticised for mentioning Gilles whenever possible, in fact some think he cannot pen an article without mentioning Villeneuve or Mario Andretti but I have always loved reading his pieces, first in Autosport and nowadays in the excellent Motor Sport magazine. Here is one of my favourite quotes:

“A friend of mine in America sent me a cassette a while ago. On it is the sound of a lone racing car, unmistakably a Ferrari flat-12, and its clearly audible all the way round the lap. There is a lot of wheelspin – you can hear the revs abruptly scream out of every turn – and then the volume builds until the car swishes by in a welter of spray. He taped it during the first afternoon of practice at Watkins Glen in 1979, when conditions were as bad as I have ever seen at a race circuit. In places the track was flooded, and only eight drivers ventured out. One of those was Scheckter, who was fastest behind team mate Villeneuve. Eleven seconds behind …The tape is of course Gilles, and it revived memories of a day when we forgot the wintry rain until he came in, the Ferrari breathless and steaming. In the pits the other drivers, aghast, had giggled nervously every time he skittered by at 160 mph. “Why do we bother? He’s different from the rest of us,” Jacques Laffite said. “On another level …”
“I scared myself rigid that day”, Jody remembered. “I thought I had to be quickest. Then I saw Gilles’s time and – I still don’t really understand how it was possible. Eleven seconds !” “Motor racing was a romantic thing for him, you see.” Scheckter went on. “We were close friends, doing the same job for the same team, but we had completely opposite attitudes to it. My preoccupation was keeping myself alive, but Gilles had to be the fastest on every lap – even in testing. He was the fastest racing driver the world has ever seen. If he could come back and live his life again, I think he would do exactly the same – and with the same love.”

On May 8th 1982 I was at a vintage car rally in Sligo with my Dad in his MG. There was of course, no internet, no Facebook and no Twitter so we were searching for information on the Saturday to see how qualifying in Belgium had gone. Dad had heard Villeneuve had had a bad crash but had no other information. On Sunday morning we both went to the lobby of the hotel and I grabbed the paper. Straight to the sports section- not a mention of Villeneuve. I remember saying triumphantly to Dad “It can’t be that bad- nothing in here” When I looked up and saw his  face  I knew something was up….. I still have that front page of the paper. A picture of the wrecked Ferrari and the headline  ”Ferrari Ace Crashes to Death” We were both devastated. It was a terrible day.  I vaguely remember trying to watch the next two Grand Prix and having no interest at all. There was nobody to watch out for, all the rest seemed the same. Thankfully my interest came back but I have never supported another driver with the same passion- and neither has my Dad!

Not sure who this quote is attributable to but I love it and share the sentiment…..

“I don’t care that he was never World Champion. I don’t care that he is probably a bit over-rated in terms of his right to be considered one of the ‘Greats’. All I know is that as a little boy, he was my hero, and that the day he died it broke my heart”

Having completed the pre-event test some 3 weeks previous to the event due to noise restrictions at the Hamshire venue, Murray was confident in himself and his car that he could remain at the front of the field at the fastest race circuit on the 2012 calendar.

With intermittent rain on an already damp track approaching qualifying, the Championship organisers called for all teams to run on wet tyres. As the session got underway, Murray immediately posted a 2nd fastest time, just behind championship rival Charlie Robertson. However, with the track now starting to dry out, the Michelin wet tyres were rapidly loosing their advantage and this was reflected in the times as few drivers were improving on their early session times. Out in front, Murray put in a series of strong laps but couldn’t match the pace of poleman Robertson. As the flag dropped on the 15 minute session, Charlie Robertson took pole with Niall lining up 2nd and had also bagged 2nd for race 2 with his second fastest time from the session. Crucially, Championship leader Sennan Fielding was down in 5th providing Murray with the best opportunity to seize the advantage to reduce his championship lead.

Once again for race 1, a controversial call was made for all drivers to run on wet tyres by the championship organisers, despite a largely dry track with most other championships running on slicks. Murray struggled off the line at the start leaving him down in 4th at the end of lap 1. Now following team mate Andrew Watson, Niall seemed to overcome any potential issues from the start and set about making his way back up the order. By lap 2, Murray was now past Watson and working his way into a 2.5 second deficit from 2nd place man Harry Woodhead. Murray the more experienced of the pair was able to use this advantage to close in on Woodhead and on lap 7, Niall made a superb move around Woodhead approaching the chicane to move into 2nd. However out in front race leader Charlie Robertson had now built up a strong lead. Despite this Murray got his head down to both ensure he remained in 2nd but also to be ready to capitalise on any mistakes from the race leader up in front. As the chequered flag dropped it was Robertson who won with Niall Murray taking a fantastic 2nd and with it and a good haul of championship points to close in on series leader Sennan Fielding.

Race 2 was a totally different story on Sunday with a totally soaked Thruxton Racing Circuit.

The event officials decided that the race would be started under safety car conditions to provide an opportunity for drivers to assess the most suitable racing line when the action got underway. After 2 laps of Safety car conditions, the lights were out and the Ginetta Electric G50 Safety car pulled off to allow the competitive action to begin. Murray, keen to ensure he brought as many championships away from the weekend as possible got a good start to stay with race leader Charlie Robertson. With significant spray from the race leader Robertson, Niall in his Douglas Motorsport Ginetta G40 was driving very well to stay with race leader Robertson. As the race progressed, Niall had managed to find a good rhythm and was lapping very consistently but up in front race leader Robertson was showing small signs that he was struggling in the conditions. Niall put in a valiant effort towards the end of the race to try and reel in the leader but in these ultra slippy conditions it proved a challenging task and as the chequered flag dropped Niall crossed the line a superb 2nd and with it, a fantastic haul of championship points to close the gap to new championship leader Charlie Robertson.

Speaking after the race, Niall commented on a challenging weekend, “Race 1 proved difficult as I got a poor start off the line, but quickly I managed to work my way back up to 2nd which was brilliant as the tyres were pretty much ruined by the half way point of the race. Race 2 must have been very boring for the fans to watch on TV but for the first few laps I could see nothing with the spray. As the race progressed I got into a good rhythm to ensure I stayed on the track and retained a healthy championship points finish. Coming into the weekend I was over 20 points off the championship lead so its fantastic to come away with the gap closed right up.”

Niall’s next event in the Ginetta Junior Championship will be at Oulton Park on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of June.

Mullan to make history on Formula Sheane debut.

County Down native Jennifer Mullan will make history by becoming the first lady to drive in the Formula Sheane Championship, at her home circuit Bishopscourt on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th May.
The newly energised championship is showing great promise this season with boosted grid numbers and increased competitiveness thanks to a successful new PR initiative. After some brief testing earlier this year, Jennifer immediately felt right at home with the unique characteristics of the car and felt it perfectly suited her driving style. For 2012, Jennifer will compete in a selected number of Formula Sheane rounds including Bishopscourt in May and the Phoenix Park Motor Races in August, ahead of a planned full championship assault in 2013. Commenting on the announcement, Jennifer expressed her delight in competing at her home circuit, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to compete at a circuit just down the road from where I grew up. Since testing the car earlier this year, I’ve worked really hard to put a deal together and I’m delighted to be returning to Sheane Cars, a team I raced with at the very start of my racing career.”

Jennifer would like to say a special word of thanks to Sheane Cars and P1 Digital for helping to make this happen. Also a special mention to encourage everyone to take part in the Formula Sheane 2k Charity Walk around Mondello Park on Saturday June 9th in aid of the wonderful ‘Make-A-Wish’ Foundation.

Formula Sheanes are built by Sheane Cars in Co Wicklow, powered by an 1800cc 16v engine producing approximately 160bhp and can lap Mondello Park National circuit in under 58 seconds.
You can keep up to date with Jennifer’s progress in Bishopscourt and throughout the season via her website, www.JenniferMullanRacing.com and on Twitter @jennifercmullan.

In other news, the Caterham F1 team have been confirmed for Bavaria City Racing in Dublin in June, joining the Vodaphone McLaren team in Dublin City Centre event.

Riad Asmat, Caterham Group CEO commented, “We are absolutely delighted to be taking part in the Bavaria City Racing event in Dublin in June. It is going to be a fantastic event and you don’t have to be an F1 fan to be excited about seeing our car, and all the other teams taking part – the noise alone around the streets of Dublin will be incredible and we can’t wait to get over to Dublin and show our friends in Ireland what F1 is all about .”

Gavin Collins, Event Director of Bavaria City Racing Dublin, commented “We are delighted to announce that the Caterham F1 Team will be performing at Bavaria City Racing Dublin this coming June.  Caterham F1 Team are one of the most exciting new teams to compete in the F1 Championship and are the second Formula 1 team confirmed to be taking part in Bavaria City Racing Dublin.”

Bavaria City Racing Dublin will provide five hours of non-stop motorsport action for everyone to enjoy in the heart of Dublin city centre. The Caterham F1 Team will line up alongside an ever growing list of international and domestic motorsport talent that includes the Vodafone McLaren F1 team, the Aprilia Superbike team, the Motorbase British Touring Car team and the GP2 Teams. One of the Breezemount Motorsport GP2 cars is set to be driven by Ireland’s A1 GP Champion, Adam Carroll, who will no doubt, be hugely popular with the crowds.

The cars will be driven along the Bavaria City Racing Dublin city track which starts at the Convention Centre Dublin, continues along Customs House Quay before crossing Butt Bridge,  chicanes at D’Olier Street, zips past College Green and the Central Bank on Dame Street before reaching the chequered flag on O’Connell Bridge.

Fantastic First Meeting at Mondello!

Well, I am just home from a wonderful weekends racing at Mondello’s season opener. We had a bit of everything- quick newbies, seasoned campaigners taking wins, monster shunts and even a post race boxing match that didn’t include any Punto Abarth drivers!
Formula Sheane, having just linked up with the Make A Wish Foundation, had a good grid of well turned out cars but nobody had an answer to the pace of Brian Hearty. Hearty has lost count of the amount of Mondello races he has won but suffice it to say, it is well into three figures. (I wonder has he won more races than anyone else at the Kildare venue?). The Dundalk haulier managed to qualify under the lap record, and was almost a second ahead of his nearest challenger, Anton Savage missed qualifying, started from the pitlane and charged to an impressive fourth, showing pace that could have troubled Hearty had he started from the front. Tristan Quinn also showed well, before pitting with a

loose exhaust after some contact at the first corner, whilst Vee graduate Robbie Allen was a delighted second in his Vertical Racing run machine. Kevin Sheane, driving a borrowed car, having badly damaged his car in a huge testing shunt, completed the podium in third. Mondello’s “Become a Race Driver” competition winner Timmy Swail was mightily impressive on his maiden outing, only losing out to Savage for fourth after a great scrap in the closing stages- definitely one to watch. Barry Rabbitt tested one of the Wicklow built machines the day before the race and was on the pace in just one session so watch out for him if he decides to join the series at round two. ITCC driver Stephen Maher also made his single seater debut and ran right in the middle of the pack before a hairy spin at turn two dropped him back. Dan Polley also started from the back and as he got to grips with the machine, he managed a laptime which would have had him in the top three with ease. Watch this space…

“Sub Minute Vees” was actually trending on Twitter over the weekend as the air cooled single seaters went quicker than ever before on their new 2012 Dunlop tyres. Ray Moore and Lee Newsome resumed their 2011 battle in qualifying, swapping times before Moore finally took pole with the fastest ever Irish Vee lap time of 59.8! Newsome also joined the

exclusive sub minute club in second, with many of the other recording personal bests in the perfect conditions. A quick chat with team boss Bernard Dolan was interesting as he reckoned the cold air was helping the Vees as much as the new tyres, perhaps explaining the incredible times. I know I am no spring chicken, but when I raced Vees (with the same tech regs) you were an absolute hero if you dipped into the 61 second bracket! In the race, Moore led away and the first few laps were intriguing. Moore and Newsome seemed to have the pace to pull away, but few have better racecraft than Moore and he appeared to back Newsome up to the chasing pack a number of times. Each time he made a break though, Newsome seemed capable of closing the gap at will. Towards the end of the race, Adam McAulay’s oil cooler came loose and the track became extremely slippy. Moore was the first to discover the oil and when he got out of shape, Newsome pounced and snatched the lead. Ian Campbell, who had fought his way up to third immediately attacked Moore. As the black Leastone defended into Dunlop, Campbell took a dive down the outside, he then tried a classic Mondello move, switching back to the inside on the exit. Moore saw it coming though and with an equally old Mondello move, was in no hurry getting on the power. Campbell seemed committed however,  and the Sheane rode over the back of the Leastone and off into the gravel. Moore survived but received a rear puncture in the incident. Newsome meanwhile was untroubled on the way to the win, from Dave Kelly and Rob Casey with Moore hobbling home in fourth. all the signs of a classic season in Formula Vee…..

Alistair Kellett took a  great Abarth win in race one despite the best efforts of team mate Barry-John McHenry who kept him honest all the way. Gordon Kellett was right there too. Gary Miller took advantage of a reverse grid to win race two as a strangely off form John Denning held the rest back. Alistair Kellett finally found a way past and slashed the gap to Miller in the closing stages but ran out of laps. Unsurprisingly, no Punto 1400s turned up for what should be the first round of their championship- and just a single Uno for newcomer Niall Hammond. There seem to be 4 or 5 Unos coming out to race this year so perhaps they need to pick three or four dates to ensure they come out at the same time. It is now almost 20 years since the first Uno race at Mondello, they must be almost eligible for Historics now!

Speaking of historics, they produced a packed grid and some superb racing. John Cardoo qualified his slick shod Mini on pole and led away despite the best efforts of fellow front row sitter Bernard Foley in the MGBGT V8. Billy Crosbie’s Lotus Seven soon joined the lead battle and relieved Cardoo of the lead on the straight mid-race. Most of the interest centred

on Jackie Cochrane’s charge through the grid, having started from the pitlane.  By the time Jackie had picked his way through the traffic, there were only a few laps to run. Cardoo was easily despatched on the main straight but Crosbie put up a tough fight, only conceding on the final lap and crossing the line just a second adrift of the mighty Tiger with Cardoo shadowing the pair.  Bernard Foley was a distant fourth but must have made some adjustments between races as he blasted into the lead early on. As in race one, the Tiger charged up through the grid and even Foley’s 3.9 V8 MG was enough to match the mighty machine as Cochrane blasted through for the double. Cardoo completed the podium in third. With Alan Kessie having fun midfield in a standard Mini Cooper S and the Gryphon remaining in the workshop, it seems nobody can touch the Tiger at the moment. Wonder how much a set of slicks would cost for the Imp?!

The ITCC organisers made some brave decisions over the winter break, changing some regs and signing a tyre deal with Yokohama and Murray Motorsport. These moves were rewarded with packed grids and even more newcomers in their masses. With Messrs Treacy, Rabbitt, Whelan absent, and Philip Burdock and Ciaran Timmons not appearing, it was time for some new names to head the pack. Brian Fitzpatrick surprised everyone by qualifying his new Civic on pole with a great turn of speed ahead of ex karter Rob Butler in the ex Rabbitt/Timmons Integra. Hondas seem to be the way to go in ITCC lately but Paul O’Brien (Scirocco) and Phil Brennan (M3) have other ideas! Both were competitive over the weekend too. In race one, Gareth Hayden drove superbly to take the win, just ahead of fellow Integra pilot Rob Savage with Brian Sexton’s JOMO Nissan third. Sexton may have challenged the leaders but was held up when Butler got way out of shape at turn three early on and fought back from the bottom end of the top

ten. Fitzpatrick came home fourth after a couple of spins- one on the warm up lap!  Keith Rabbitt’s beautifully turned out flame spitting Civic led the Touring class early on, under huge pressure from birthday boy Cian Carey and impressive newcomer Kevin Moran.  Moran got the lead when Rabbitt dropped back but Carey, although vastly improved since 2011, is a little too fond of using the front bumper as a tool for overtaking. A gently tip into the second bit of the Esses was enough to unsettle the rear end of Moran’s newly built Civic Coupe and send him off into the tyres. Carey was first across the line then, from Anthony Murtagh and the recovering Rabbitt. In race two, Fitzpatrick nailed a perfect start from the second row to lead down into Ford Corner. Phil Brennan had obviously been fiddling with the BMW between races though and he tracked down the Civic. Before he got a chance to attack, Fitzpatrick locked up and slid into the gravel at Mazda. At the same time Anthony Murtagh’s Corrado had a huge off just after the start line, ending up heavily damaged under the bridge, blocking the the track and bringing out the red flags. Luckily Murtagh was able to get out and walk away unscathed, the Corrado didn’t look quite so healthy. At the restart Fitzpatrick led the shortened race away again but Brennan usurped him with a superb move round the outside of turn one to grab the lead.  From there on, he was unchallenged and took the win ahead of Hayden and Savage whilst Eoghan Fogarty drove well to dominate Touring ahead of  Rallycross regular David Bailey and Carey.

Alan Watkins led the Strykers away but went off mid race, apparently a consequence of a broken wishbone. This left Paul Yeomans clear to take the win from Stephen Ross with a delighted Brian Kingston taking his first podium in third. In race two, Watkins demonstrated his standing start skills  to lead away again but Yeomans hauled him in and got by for the double. Roger Welaratne was third home in this one.

Sean Doyle was in top form in Ginetta Junior Ireland at the end of 2011 and he took the unusual step of going to Global

Lights for his next career step. It made sense for many reasons. ABR, who ran his Ginetta, run the entire Global class too, the cars are quick, lapping Mondello National in well under a minute, and they are relatively cheap to run. The only issue was that there are some quick guys at the front and they had the potential to inadvertantly damage Sean’s career if he could not beat them. Judging by Sundays performances, it was a good decision. Sean was the pace of the class for most of the weekend. He led race one before spinning at turn three, then provided all the entertainment as he charged back up to second behind team boss Alan Byrne. His placement of the car, particularly into the Esses, was wonderful to watch, making his exit so much quicker than his next target, that you would think he had an extra 10bhp as he got alongside as they approached the braking zone for Dunlop. In race two, he took a controlled victory with Byrne in attendance thoughout, the pair well ahead of the rest. It looks as if he may have raised the bar in the class and it will be interesting to see  how former champions Max Drennan, Bernie Braden and the returning Keith Dawson will react to this as the season progresses.

James Fleming came out tops in a great scrap with Jake Byrne in Ginetta Junior Ireland race one, the pair swapping places on numerous occasions in a hard but fair race. Young Jack Finlay marked himself out as one to watch this year too taking

third place. In race two, Byrne and Fleming resumed their battle, this time with the vastly improved Andrew Clarke in attendance. Clarke seems to have shed his wild man image over the winter as he calmly shadowed the leaders and he was ideally placed when Byrne’s last lap attempt to wrest the lead away from Fleming went wrong.  By the time Byrne had gathered it all up, Clarke was though for his best result ever.

Eamonn Matheson’s Ninja T5 has always been ridiculously fast in a straight line. A bit like the Titanic though, it wasn’t too handy at changes of direction (both were built in Northern Ireland too now that I think of it…) After a major shunt last year,  the car has been completely rebuilt and unfortunately for the other Formula Libre Ireland competitors, it now seems a lot handier through the twiddly bits. In race one, The Apprentice winner and subsequent TV personality Eugene Heary, led away in his beautifully presented Rothmans liveried Reynard. Matheson closed in though and blasted by on the main straight. Heary was spectacular in his efforts to fight holding onto a massive moment out of Dunlop in the closing stages  and crossing the line almost alongside. He later explained that his tyres were well past their best and it was a bit of a handful to drive! In race two, Peter Dwyer rocketed away in his F3 Dallara and Matheson has no answer for him, finishing well behind with Heary having dropped out at the start. Paul Heavey’s Leastone provided all the entertainment in this one as he used circuit knowledge and a nimble chassis to hold off first the Formula Masters car of Philip Shields, then the Formula Renault of Fergus Faherty. Faherty was not as appreciative as the grandstand crowd unfortunately and there were ugly scenes in the paddock afterwards, Faherty rightly being on the receiving  end of disciplinary action by the race officials.

This apart, it was a wonderful days racing at Mondello and it would seem we are in for a great 2012 season.

Formula Sheane and I are organising  a sponsored walk around Mondello on June 9th at 6pm. It is to raise funds for the excellent Make-A-Wish Foundation and all are welcome on the day. Sponsorship cards are available from me so pick one up and join us on the day for a bit of fun! One lap of Mondello National is about 2k and I am assured the bar will be open so maybe we can organise some fun and games for afterwards too.

Irish Race Championship to Raise Funds for Make-A-Wish!

At their launch last night in Dublin, Formula Sheane, Ireland’s fastest one make racing class, announced a link up with The Make-A-Wish Foundation Ireland. This link, the first of its kind in Irish Motorsport, will see the race drivers, their friends and families, raise funds for the charity through a number of novel initiatives. The first of these is a sponsored walk around Mondello Park, the Kildare venue where the Wicklow built cars race most regularly. At 6pm on June the 9th, they will assemble at Mondello, line up on the grid and when the lights turn green, the walk, and the fundraising begins! This event is open to everybody- sponsorship cards are available from myself or anyone in Formula Sheane.
Formula Sheane cars are built by Sheane Engineering in County Wicklow, are capable of speeds in excess
of 150 mph and can accelerate from 1-100km/h in under five seconds. They race at Mondello Park in Kildare,
Kirkistown and Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland and The Phoenix Park, in the centre of Dublin.
Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children between 3 – 18 years living in Ireland with a life threatening medical condition. Their wishes turn fantasy into reality. A wish can provide a positive, often once in a lifetime experience, for the child and their family. The promise of a wish can have a remarkable effect on a sick child and has enormous impact on everyone close to them. A wish gives a child something to look forward to through their many months of treatment. Since its inception in 1992 Make-A-Wish in Ireland has granted wishes for over 1400 brave children, realising their greatest wish and allowing them experience the hope, strength and joy each wish provides.
